Human Nature

Fiber Sculpture & Live Experience by Kelsy Osterman, 2018.

Digital Photography by Zoe Prinds Flash and Erin Smith.

Human Nature is my first large-scale, live-experience art show, Human Nature, captured by two photographers over the course of two separate nights. For the event, I created an interactive, sensory landscape which included original photography, fiber sculpture, video, and sound for visitors to explore. The overarching question I asked my audience to consider, “How do you find Peace in your everyday life?”

Human Nature is one of my core life philosophies: What does it mean to be a human, an individual, a warrior, a blessed being working in harmony with the inspiration Mother Nature offers us daily? When I think of the phrase “Human Nature,” it carries me to a time of child-like play, interacting with the beauty which surrounds us: running through tall grasses, jumping into a cool body of water, catching fireflies on a warm summer night. It is letting our instincts guide us into a place of pure sensation and adventure, allowing ourselves to feel safe in the present moment to be free. When there is safety, we feel free, and when we are free, we are often able to find peace.

Safety + Freedom = Peace became my artful equation and force that fuels my everyday life.
